RINA is currently recruiting for a Internship - Bridge Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Italy Infrastructure & Mobility Division.​

Mission

The role focuses on supporting the planning, design, and maintenance of bridge structures through on-the-job training and mentorship provided by Senior Engineers. The internship offers the opportunity to develop technical knowledge and gain practical exposure to bridge engineering activities while contributing to infrastructure projects. #LI-MT3

Key Accountabilities

Bridge Design and Analysis:

  • You will be introduced to the principles of bridge design and structural analysis under the guidance of Senior Engineers.

  • You will be trained to support the development of bridge models and simulations using engineering software, learning how bridge structures behave under different loading and environmental conditions.

  • You will gradually gain familiarity with bridge materials, load-bearing concepts, and design methodologies.

Project Planning:

  • You will work alongside project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to understand the planning process for bridge projects.

  • You will be supported in learning how project timelines, resource requirements, and budget considerations are developed and managed.

  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to planning activities under supervision.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • You will receive training on the applicable local, national, and international bridge design codes and standards.

  • You will learn how engineering designs are reviewed to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • You will be supported in understanding updates to industry standards and their application within engineering projects.

Structural Assessments:

  • You will accompany experienced engineers during bridge inspections and structural assessments to learn evaluation methodologies.

  • You will be introduced to techniques used to assess structural integrity and identify maintenance or rehabilitation needs.

  • You will support the preparation of technical observations and recommendations under supervision.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • You will work closely with engineers from different disciplines to gain an understanding of how bridge engineering integrates within larger infrastructure projects.

  • You will be encouraged to participate in coordination activities with project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders while being mentored throughout the process.

  • You will develop communication and teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary environment.

Construction Oversight:

  • You will have the opportunity to observe construction activities and learn how bridge projects are monitored to ensure compliance with approved designs and engineering specifications.

  • You will be supported in understanding how construction challenges are identified and addressed by engineering teams.

  • You will gain practical exposure to the relationship between design and construction.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • You will be trained to prepare and maintain technical documentation related to bridge design, inspections, and project activities.

  • You will support the preparation of reports and project documentation under the guidance of experienced engineers.

  • You will develop familiarity with engineering documentation standards and best practices.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Other

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in bridge engineering and infrastructure projects.
  • Willingness to learn structural analysis and bridge design principles through hands-on training and mentorship.
  • Interest in developing familiarity with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, LARSA, or MIDAS Civil.
  • Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals acquired through university studies.
  • Eagerness to learn relevant bridge design codes and standards, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and applicable local regulations, with the support of Senior Engineers.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Proactive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to continuously learn in a professional environment.
