RINA is currently recruiting for a Intern Sustainability Consultant (JC_0736) to join its office in Genoa, Naples or Rome (Italy) within the  Division.

Mission

The Intern Sustainability Consultant supports projects across a broad range of sustainability-related areas, including Climate Risk, Carbon Markets, Energy Efficiency and Management, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting & Target Settings, Product Sustainability Metrics, Sustainable Finance, ESG, and Sustainability Management. The role requires a preliminary understanding of sustainability principles, curiosity for emerging trends and regulations, analytical and research skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. The Intern Consultant will work under the guidance of consultants and senior consultants, contributing to the execution of sustainability analyses and the preparation of technical deliverables.

Key Accountabilities

GHG Accounting & Target Settings
- Support in performing GHG emissions inventories for companies and products.
- Assist in data collection and analysis for GHG targets and decarbonization strategies.
- Contribute to identifying potential areas for emissions reduction under supervision.
Product Sustainability Metrics
- Support the development and implementation of LCA/LCC/S-LCA/EPD/CFP models.
- Collect and organize data relevant to LCA/LCC/S-LCA/EPD/CFP analyses.
- Assist in conducting sustainability and circularity assessments.
- Learn and progressively develop proficiency in LCA software tools (e.g., Open LCA, PSILCA, Sphera GaBi).
Energy Efficiency and Management
- Support in energy audits and efficiency assessments.
- Assist in identifying potential areas for energy savings in various sectors.
- Contribute to ISO 50001 implementation and maintenance activities.
Climate Risk
- Assist in conducting Climate Change Vulnerability and Risk Assessments aligned with international standards.
- Support the identification of climate adaptation measures.
Sustainable Finance
- Support analyses of alignment with the Paris Agreement and sustainable finance principles.
- Assist in the evaluation of projects or investments against Green Loan and Green Bond Principles.
Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG)
- Contribute to ESG data collection and benchmarking exercises.
- Support ESG assessments and analysis against international standards.
Carbon Markets
- Support studies and data collection for compliance with Voluntary or Mandatory Carbon Market requirements.
- Assist in preliminary calculations of potential carbon credit generation.
Sustainability Management
- Support EU Taxonomy and DNSH analyses (ex-ante and monitoring).
- Contribute to the preparation of Sustainability Policies and Reports (e.g., ESRS, GRI) under supervision.
Horizontal Tasks and Actions: 
Preparation of Written Documents:
- Contribute to drafting sections of technical reports and presentations.
- Ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency in documentation under guidance.
Calculations and Data Analysis:
- Perform basic calculations and quantitative analyses related to sustainability metrics.
- Assist in managing and interpreting datasets to identify trends and insights.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Participate in internal meetings and client interactions alongside senior consultants.
- Support the preparation of communication and engagement materials.
Compliance and Standards:
- Stay updated on relevant sustainability standards, regulations, and frameworks.
- Ensure alignment of work with internal quality procedures and best practices.
Learning and Development:
- Actively participate in training and mentoring sessions to build sustainability expertise.
- Seek continuous feedback to enhance technical and professional skills.
Assistance in Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute ideas for improving tools, templates, and processes.
- Support the team in identifying and implementing best practices.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively within project teams, ensuring effective communication.
- Share progress updates and proactively seek support when needed.

Education

Master’s Degree in Energy Engineering or Chemical Engineering
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering General

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset and collaborative approach.
  • Motivation to learn and grow in the sustainability field.
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks (e.g., ESRS, EU Taxonomy, SBTi, GRI, CDP) is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental and social sustainability topics.
  • Mother tongue Italian, English (level B2/C1); a third language (Spanish or French) is an advantage
