RINA is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer to join its office in Genoa (Italy) within the Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division.
Mission
The Geotechnical Engineer performs geotechnical characterizations, structure calculations and assists to surveys under the supervision of a Senior Engineer. Primary duties include geotechnical design project coordination, laboratory testing, and construction observation. The Geotechnical Engineer provides support in the writing of technical reports and in all the design processes. The individual works with other engineers on a project team, maintaining effective communication with project team members, other departments, suppliers, and clients. The role focuses on analyzing and determining the possible impacts of soil and rock on a construction site when placed under pressure from structures. #LI-VB1
Key Accountabilities
- Supporting the development and coordination of geotechnical engineering projects across various stages, including preliminary assessments, detailed design, and construction monitoring, under the guidance of seasoned engineers.
- Contributing to the design of foundations, retaining systems, slope stabilization, and underground structures, applying principles such as bearing capacity, settlement analysis, soil–structure interaction, and slope stability assessments.
- Utilizing specialized geotechnical software tools including Paratie Plus, Rocscience suite (Settle 3D, Slide, Swedge/Unwedge, Dips), Slope/W, Aztec Suite (Max, API++), LRS2D for design calculations and modeling.
- Assisting in the preparation and execution of finite element and difference models for both static and dynamic analyses using software like Rocscience RS2 and Plaxis 2D to analyze complex soil-structure behaviors.
- Collecting and analyzing soil and rock samples to evaluate critical geotechnical properties such as compressibility, strength, and efficiency, which influence structural safety and performance.
- Participating in detailed geological and geotechnical fieldwork, including mapping, drilling, and monitoring, to assess site conditions, rock faces, cuts, and stabilization measures.
- Identifying and assessing geological hazards and associated risks, ensuring all geotechnical factors affecting engineering works are thoroughly recognized and managed.
- Analyzing seismic survey data and subsurface material characteristics to inform risk evaluations and engineering decisions.
- Providing on-site measurements and technical support throughout project execution phases to facilitate informed decision-making and quality assurance.
- Assisting with regulatory compliance by preparing and submitting permit documentation and supporting official communications.
- Developing realistic project schedules and timelines in collaboration with senior engineers, contributing actively to project management and deliverable tracking.
