RINA is currently recruiting for a Genoa Marine Consulting Senior Project Manager to join its office in Genoa within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Consulting Division.
Mission
As a Senior Project Manager in RINA’s Marine Consulting Division, your mission is to lead and orchestrate complex marine consultancy projects with a blend of strategic vision, technical authority, and decisive project leadership.
You will lead high‑level engineering studies covering Class Rules, statutory requirements, ship stability, fire safety engineering, life‑saving arrangements, naval structures, and ship systems ensuring that each project benefits from your deep knowledge and analytical insight.
Your goal is to drive excellence in project execution, guide multidisciplinary teams, and uphold strong, trust‑based relationships with clients and stakeholders.
By steering technical direction, mentoring junior staff, and promoting innovation, you will contribute to advancing RINA’s reputation as a trusted advisor in marine engineering and regulatory consulting. #LI-MB4
Key Accountabilities
Project Management & Client Interface
- Lead and coordinate marine consulting projects end‑to‑end, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Act as primary interface for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams, maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Define project scope, methodologies, schedules, and resource plans with full autonomy.
- Prepare, review, and validate project documentation, reports, proposals, and technical deliverables.
- Guarantee adherence to RINA’s quality standards and client expectations.
Technical Analysis & Engineering Activities
Depending on your technical strengths, you will lead or execute advanced engineering analyses while guiding the development of broader capabilities within the team:
- Class rules compliance and evaluation of design solutions.
- Statutory regulations analysis (SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Line, MLC, etc.) and support to approval processes.
- Ship stability analyses, including intact, damage, and probabilistic stability methods.
- Fire prevention and fire‑fighting systems review, including fire protection arrangements and compliance assessments.
- Life‑saving appliances (LSA) evaluation and verification of arrangements.
- Risk assessment and safety engineering, such as FMEA, HAZID/HAZOP, or risk-based decision processes.
- Naval structures analysis (hull arrangements, scantlings, structural integrity assessments).
- Ship systems and onboard plants, including auxiliary machinery, piping arrangements, and integrated system evaluations.
- Contribution to technical studies related to ship design, conversions, retrofitting, and innovative maritime technologies.
Coordination & Technical Leadership
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, engineering constraints, and client objectives.
- Mentor junior PM, facilitating their technical growth and project management skills.
- Provide technical direction and ensure consistency, rigor, and quality across deliverables.
- Contribute significantly to business development, including proposals, client meetings, and technical presentations.
- Actively contribute to Agile project teams, participating in iterative planning, sprint reviews, and collaborative problem‑solving activities to enhance delivery efficiency and team integration.
Education
Qualifications & Skills
- +5 years of experience in project management in engineering environment
Technical Skills
Candidates are not expected to possess mastery across all below listed domains.
However, significant expertise in two or more technical areas, combined with the ability to oversee and integrate contributions from multidisciplinary specialists, is required for the Senior PM role.
- Strong command of Class Rules (IACS, RINA Rules, etc.) and deep familiarity with IMO statutory regulations, with the ability to interpret, apply, and advise clients on regulatory implications and compliance strategies.
- Advanced expertise in ship stability, including intact, damage, and probabilistic approaches, with the capability to oversee complex analyses and validate results produced by junior engineers.
- Proficiency in fire protection and fire‑fighting systems, including evaluation of fire safety arrangements, compliance assessments, and integration with ship design constraints.
- High‑level competence in life‑saving appliances (LSA) and associated arrangements, providing guidance on regulatory interpretations and approval processes.
- Solid experience in naval structures, including structural calculations, scantling verification, structural integrity assessments, and interpretation of rule‑based criteria in practical design scenarios.
- Extensive understanding of ship systems and onboard plants, including auxiliary machinery, machinery layouts, piping arrangements, and the evaluation of integrated system performance.
- Proficiency with marine engineering and naval architecture software tools, such as NAPA, GHS, FEM tools, and system modelling applications, with the ability to supervise, review, or guide their use across project teams.
