RINA is currently recruiting for a Construction Safety Principal Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Italy within the Civil Engineering Division.
Mission
RINA is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Principal Engineer to join our Civil Engineering Division in Genoa, Italy. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained across all infrastructure construction operations. Working closely with the Managing Engineer, you will oversee site safety strategies, enforce compliance, and contribute to the safe delivery of complex projects. #LI-MT3
Key Accountabilities

Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks on construction sites, ensuring full compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations and industry standards.

Ensure all construction activities strictly adhere to applicable laws, codes, and RINA’s internal safety policies and procedures.

Conduct regular site inspections to detect potential hazards, unsafe behaviors, and hazardous conditions. Develop and implement corrective actions to address findings and ensure alignment with health and safety program requirements.

Assist in developing project-specific safety documentation, including safety plans, method statements, and risk assessments.

Lead thorough investigations of incidents and near misses, document findings, and recommend actionable preventive measures.

Verify the proper delivery and documentation of safety training to construction teams, subcontractors, and relevant stakeholders.

Develop or verify emergency response plans for each site and ensure all site personnel are trained and informed.

Oversee and verify the use, condition, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety gear.

Provide direct support and supervision for construction safety elements across active project sites.

Collaborate effectively with engineering teams on-site, supporting project execution and safety compliance.

Contribute to project planning by assisting in the creation of schedules and deliverables under senior supervision.

Prepare and review technical deliverables, such as safety reports, Health & Safety Plans, Safety and Coordination Plans, and engineering documentation.

Draft and submit progress reports and performance updates.

Uphold and apply the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and support the implementation of RINA’s Quality Policy in all assigned activities.
Education
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental and Construction Engineering.

Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in a similar construction safety role, preferably within infrastructure projects.
Regulatory Compliance

Deep understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations.

Proven ability to ensure full regulatory compliance across all construction phases.
Site Safety Audits and Risk Mitigation

Strong track record of conducting comprehensive site inspections.

Ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions and implement effective safety solutions.
Safety Documentation and Planning

Skilled in developing and reviewing project-specific safety documentation.

Proficient in preparing detailed technical inspection reports and action plans.
Incident Investigation and Prevention

Experienced in investigating accidents and near misses.

Capable of producing actionable reports and preventive strategies to avoid recurrence.
