RINA is currently recruiting for a Climate Risk & Adaptation Specialist to join its office in Genoa within the Sustainability and Business Innovation Division.​

Mission

The candidate will join the Technical Discipline “ESG, Sustainability & Climate Risk” at RINA Consulting, delivering technical services on a global scale. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with clients across industry, research and development, and the financial sector—supporting efforts to mitigate climate change risk and improve climate resilience of the assets implementing effective adaptation strategies.

This role will involve providing technical expertise across a wide range of sustainability-related areas, including Climate Change, Carbon Markets, Energy Efficiency and Management, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting, Product Sustainability Metrics, Sustainable Finance, ESG, and Sustainability Management. 

Key Accountabilities

-Lead projects across a range of sustainability and climate-related domains, with special focus on:

  • Climate Change Risk & Vulnerability Assessments (CRVA) and Climate Change Risk Assessments (CCRA) - assessment of physical and transition climate-related risks, including climate baseline definition, scenario analysis, hazard screening, exposure and vulnerability assessment, risk prioritisation, alternatives analysis and appraisal of residual risks
  • Climate Adaptation & Resilience Strategies - application of climate adaptation principles across different contexts, translating climate risk assessment outcomes into tailored adaptation measures, resilience strategies and investment priorities for assets, infrastructures, industrial operations and corporate portfolios
  • Climate Corporate Governance, transition planning and disclosure practices - embedding climate change considerations into internal structures and processes of Corporate Clients by developing credible transition plans, building capabilities, tools, and processes and unlocking finance for green investments 

-Lead and implement Research & Development activities for climate risk-related projects funded by the EU under the Horizon Europe 2021–2027 programme. 

-Contribute to the preparation of high-quality technical and financial proposals for ESG, Sustainability & Climate Risk related topics. 

-Manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes. 

-Collaborate with team members to share knowledge and support the achievement of the Discipline team objectives. 

-Stay current with industry trends, regulatory developments, and best practices in sustainability, with deep expertise in climate change, ESG principles, and sustainability reporting frameworks. 

Education

Master’s Degree in Energy Engineering or Engineering General

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate studies focused on climate change/risk/adaptation are considered a strong asset. 
  • At least 3 years of solid experience in climate-related domains listed above. 
  • Experience in quantitative modelling and data analysis applied to climate risk, adaptation, ESG or sustainable finance, including climate scenario analysis, GIS-based risk mapping, GHG/carbon modelling, cost-benefit analysis and financial modelling is a plus 
  • Familiarity with relevant frameworks and regulations such as Equator Principles, TCFD, European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), IFC & EBRD Performance Standards and similar 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Italian (C1 level); proficiency in additional languages (e.g., French, Spanish) is a plus. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Demonstrated passion for driving environmental and social impact through business practices. 
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn, with a proactive attitude and the ability to stay current with evolving developments in the field.
