Electrical Systems Engineer

RINA is currently recruiting for a Electrical Systems Engineer to join its office in Fort Lauderdale within the Marine Design & Engineering Division.
Mission
The role focuses on contributing to the design, optimization, and documentation of electrical power systems, ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. It supports senior engineers in the evaluation and selection of components, and assists in the modeling, simulation, testing, and validation of power systems. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs, and engaging in continuous learning and development to expand knowledge of power system technologies and practices.
Key Accountabilities
Power System Design and Optimization:
- Contribute to the preparation of design calculations, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Contribute to the development of electrical schematics, layouts, and diagrams using computer-assisted engineering and design software.
Component Evaluation and Selection:
- Support senior engineers in evaluating and selecting appropriate components such as transformers, generators, switchgear, and circuit breakers based on project requirements.
- Contribute to conducting research and gathering data to inform component selection decisions.
System Modeling and Simulation:
- Aid in the utilization of simulation software tools for power system modeling and analysis.
- Contribute to performing simulations and analysis to verify system behavior and performance.
Documentation and Technical Writing:
- Prepare technical documents including system specifications, calculations, and drawings.
- Support the documentation of design concepts, analysis results, and recommendations.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical power systems into overall project designs.
- Contribute to coordinating tasks and effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders.
Testing and Validation Support:
- Contribute to the development of test plans and procedures for prototype testing.
- Support senior engineers in conducting testing and validation activities to ensure system reliability and safety.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Aid in identifying and resolving technical issues related to power system design through troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
Learning and Development:
- Engage in ongoing learning and professional development activities to expand knowledge of electrical power system technologies, standards, and best practices.
- Seek guidance from senior engineers and participate in training programs as needed.
Compliance Support:
- Contribute to ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations throughout the design process.
- Support senior engineers in conducting research and staying updated on regulatory requirements.
Education
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in electrical power system design, analysis, or a related engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of power system components, including transformers, generators, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
- Experience with electrical schematics, layouts, and diagrams, utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering software.
- Proficiency in power system modeling and simulation tools, with the ability to support analysis and optimization efforts.
- Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to electrical power systems.
- Strong technical writing skills, with experience in preparing system specifications, design documents, and reports.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities to identify and resolve technical issues in power system design.
- Experience in testing and validation activities, including developing test plans and supporting prototype evaluations.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with engineers, stakeholders, and project teams.
