RINA is currently recruiting for a Internship Decarbonization of Steel Production Consultant to join its office in Dalmine within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Division.
Mission
Join our team at RINA Consulting - CSM S.p.A. as an Internship Decarbonization of Steel Production Consultant, where you will have the unique opportunity to delve into the practical application of hydrogen utilization for decarbonization of steel production. You'll be at the forefront of studying the mechanism of iron ore reduction hydrogen based mechanisms, contributing to a more sustainable future. Your role will involve experimental activity of iron ore pellets reduction, characterization of samples and analysis of results. The pellets are provided by main industrial players. Delving into the results of reduction tests you'll be directly involved in the definition of reaction mechanism and on the evaluation of the impacts on industrial reduction process, analyzing the impact on the environment and CO2 emissions.
Key Accountabilities
- Deep Dive into Circular Economy: Gain a solid theoretical understanding of circular economy principles and new approaches to reducing CO2 emissions. Your knowledge in this area will be pivotal in modern contexts where sustainability drives industrial policies. Dive into the realm of minimizing resource usage, extending product lifecycle, and waste reduction through innovative strategies such as material generation and adoption of circular economic models. Understand waste streams in industrial chains to identify recovery and recycling opportunities, harnessing hidden potential in waste as a resource.
- Materials characterization and Critical Skills in the analysis of results. Analyse the effectiveness of process performances (kinetic of pellets reduction by hydrogen and blends hydrogen/natural gas). Analysis of the impact of GHG minimization among different process conditions and respect standard production route. Identify improvement areas in existing processes, evaluate innovative alternatives, and compare technologies for long-term benefits.
- Scientific Research Competence: Master the art of conducting rigorous scientific research to deepen understanding of material recovery processes and propose innovative, sustainable, and economical solutions. Scientific exploration in circular economy and new energy vectors

A complete Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis of proposed solutions serves as a valuable tool for overall evaluation of innovative approaches.
Education
Qualifications

Candidates will need to demonstrate proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Previous experience in environmental consulting or industrial process analysis would be advantageous.

Proficiency in Italian and English languages is preferred due to the nature of the work.

Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies and circular economy principles is a plus.
