RINA is currently recruiting for a Civitavecchia Junior Marine Surveyor to join its office in Civitavecchia, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.
Mission
The Junior Surveyor is to contribute to the organization's commitment to maritime safety, compliance, and excellence by applying knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry principles. The Junior Surveyor supports the surveying team in performing routine inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and staying informed about evolving industry practices. #LI-MC1
Key Accountabilities
- Professional Knowledge Application: Apply your growing expertise of maritime rules, regulations, and classification principles within operational contexts to assist in maintaining high standards.
- Inspection and Compliance Surveys: Conduct routine inspections on classed vessels, offshore platforms, and marine infrastructure to verify compliance with regulatory and classification requirements. Interpret technical drawings and specifications to validate construction and maintenance standards.
- Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed and precise inspection reports promptly, documenting findings and recommendations that support decision-making and client communication.
- File and Documentation Management: Ensure survey files and records are complete, well-organized, and accurately maintained to facilitate traceability and audit readiness.
- Continuous Professional Development: Stay actively informed of industry developments, rule changes, and innovative surveying techniques through structured training and self-directed learning opportunities.
- Problem-Solving and Innovation: Identify challenges during surveys and proactively suggest improvements or alternative approaches, while seeking advice and mentorship from experienced surveyors.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Work collaboratively within the surveying team, contributing constructively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments, and supporting colleagues in achieving collective goals.
- Quality and Compliance Assurance: Participate in ensuring adherence to internal quality standards and external regulatory frameworks, assisting in audits and inspections as required.
- Client Engagement: Represent RINA Services in client interactions during surveys, fostering trust and clear communication under the guidance of senior personnel.
- Ethical Professional Conduct: Uphold integrity, transparency, and fairness in all professional activities, reflecting RINA’s values and industry best practices.
In this role, you will regularly travel (50% to 75%) to varied locations, engaging directly with vessels and maritime assets, gaining hands-on experience essential for your development into a fully competent marine surveyor.
Education
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following qualifications and competencies:
- A Master's Degree in Naval Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification relevant to marine surveying and shipbuilding.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, suitable for technical communication, reporting, and statutory certification.
- Foundational knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and an understanding of the RINA Employee Safety Policy, with a commitment to learning and applying these standards.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret engineering plans and drawings, coupled with basic knowledge of ship construction and operational principles.
- Competence to conduct new building surveys, assessing materials, hull, machinery, and equipment according to prescribed rules, including issuing relevant certificates and reports.
- Capability to perform surveys on ships in service, identifying maintenance compliance, deficiencies, and necessary repairs, while understanding the implications for ship management systems.
- Familiarity with testing activities related to certified materials and products, ensuring strict compliance with applicable rules and standards.
- Knowledge of ship engineering systems and machinery to support technical assessments during surveys.
- Experience or aptitude with computer programs and software relevant to survey work, documentation, and reporting.
