RINA is currently recruiting for a Traffic Engineer to join its office in Chicago or Lisle, IL or Columbus, OH within the North America Infrastructure & Mobility Division. Remote work from other midwest locations may be considered.
Compensation Range: $110,000 - $130,000
Job Summary
The Traffic Engineer (Lead Engineer) drives the execution, design, and calculations of traffic engineering projects. You will ensure technical deliverables meet client needs while overseeing the quality of work across calculations, drafts, and designs. Acting as the key liaison between the Project Manager and team, you will communicate project updates and coordinates efforts across disciplines. With expertise in engineering procedures and project management, you will participate in client meetings, proposal writing, and help manage project scopes, timelines, and budgets. Regular client feedback and recommendations are also key to the role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for designs, CAD drawings, and specifications on assigned projects, under the guidance/direction of Project Manager
- Works with other engineers on a project team, maintaining effective communication with project team members, other departments, suppliers, and clients
- Coordinates with drafters, designers, and staff engineers within project team
- Accountable for design calculations and plan development
- Completes drawings/project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule; reviews drawings for completeness, accuracy, and constructability.
- Develops conceptual and basic engineering documents including studies, design criteria, equipment specifications, etc.
- Utilizes computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
- Performs field work by obtaining field information.
- Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly
- Other duties as assigned
Professional Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required
- 8 plus years of experience in design engineering
- Professional Engineering License , PTOE preferred.
- Ability to design in MicroStation Open Roads Designer
- Experience designing for traffic projects
- Working knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required (i.e., AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

- Valid driver’s license
- Occasional Local or regional travel (i.e. client or job sites) may be required based upon business need
