RINA is currently recruiting for a Supervising Geotechnical Engineer to join its office in Chicago, IL within the North America Energy Division.

Compensation Data

Salary Range:

130-170K Annually

The Supervising Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for leading a small team of geotechnical engineers and geologists to complete projects on time and within budget to the established quality standards. Work will also include proposal preparation including subcontractor procurement and management. The Engineer at this level exercises independent initiative and judgement in setting and implementing engineering goals for the team. The individual is accountable for the technical work and productivity of the team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead, plan, train, and supervise the work of engineering staff; verify the work for accuracy and completeness, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Provide technical expertise for discipline and serve as coach for engineering team.
  • Direct and mentor junior engineers and support their development.
  • Coordinate workload and set priorities for projects within team.
  • Manage a variety of personnel actions including but not limited to selection, promotion, goal setting, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Perform advanced professional engineering actions including calculations and report preparation.
  • Complete engineering computations, analyses, and lead designs from conception to completion
  • Prepare design packages utilizing QA/QC policy and all applicable client standard and code requirements.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and costs for projects.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work
  • Scope development and prepare cost estimate of new work.
  • Interface with clients and develop proposals for service.
  • Review and seal geotechnical reports, designs and plans.
  • Perform and/or review field work and evaluate collected data; assist with field engineering support and inspections as needed.
  • Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited institution required (discipline in Geotechnical or Civil engineering, or equivalent fields of study)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and have ability to expand licensing to other states. Professional Geologist license preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience independently planning, performing, and coordinating advanced level geotechnical engineering studies, computations, drawings, and reports.
  • 1+ years of experience leading an engineering team through all phases of a project design with a strong ability to organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques and tools in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.) as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% for business needs.
