Outfitting Inspector

RINA is currently recruiting for a Outfitting Inspector to join its office in Tulcea within the Europe Marine Consulting Division.
Mission
We are seeking a qualified Outfitting Inspector to oversee and verify outfitting activities during construction and installation phases. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with drawings, technical documentation, class requirements, and safety standards, while supporting timely project delivery. This is a 6 months project.

Key Accountabilities
- Supervise and inspect all outfitting construction activities on board, including piping systems, HVAC ducts, cable trays, machinery foundations, and auxiliary equipment installation, ensuring compliance with approved drawings and project specifications.
- Attend inspections and official survey calls in the presence of Classification Society representatives and the shipyard, acting on behalf of the Shipowner to safeguard the Owner’s interests.
- Verify correct assembly, routing, alignment, and support of piping systems (bilge, ballast, fuel oil, cooling water, fire-fighting, hydraulic systems, etc.), ensuring compliance with approved isometrics and Class requirements.
- Witness pressure tests, flushing operations, tightness tests, and functional testing of piping systems prior to commissioning.
- Inspect installation and positioning of machinery, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and related equipment, ensuring proper alignment, bolting, clearances, and accessibility for maintenance.
- Verify proper installation of pipe supports, penetrations, sleeves, expansion joints, and vibration dampening arrangements.
- Perform inspections inside tanks (ballast tanks, fuel tanks, void spaces, cofferdams) to verify piping installation, suction arrangements, air pipes, sounding pipes, and structural penetrations.
- Review shipyard standard installation procedures and typical outfitting arrangements to ensure conformity with onboard installations.
Education
Qualifications
- Degree or Technical Diploma in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent maritime technical education.
- Deep knowledge of marine piping systems, machinery installation, HVAC systems, and shipboard auxiliary systems.
- Ability to read and interpret functional drawings, isometric drawings, layout drawings, machinery arrangement plans, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with Classification Society rules (e.g., RINA, ABS, DNV, LR, BV or equivalent) and applicable international maritime regulations.
- Good understanding of shipyard construction processes and installation standards.
- Confined space entry awareness and knowledge of shipyard safety procedures.
- Good command of English (written and spoken); additional languages are considered an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine newbuilding projects, with specific involvement in outfitting activities.
- Proven experience in inspection of marine piping systems, including verification of routing, supports, alignment, and system completeness.
- Hands-on experience in witnessing pressure tests, tightness tests, flushing operations, and system commissioning activities.
- Experience in inspection of machinery and equipment installation, including positioning, alignment checks, bolting, and accessibility verification.
- Experience performing inspections inside tanks, void spaces, and confined areas during construction.
- Experience liaising with shipyards, subcontractors, and Classification Societies during inspections and surveys.
