RINA is currently recruiting for a Barcelona Junior Hull Plan Approval Engineer to join its office in Barcelona within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

The Junior Hull Plan Approval Engineer supports the development and review of detailed vessel plans, helping to identify and resolve issues related to design requirements while ensuring compliance with client specifications, classification rules, and international standards. Contributes to approval activities for newbuilds, conversions, and existing vessels, including commercial ships and yachts.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist in reviewing drawings and technical documentation related to fire protection systems, life-saving appliances, safety arrangements, and emergency systems.

  • Support the verification of compliance with Classification Society Rules, statutory regulations, and international conventions (SOLAS, ISM, IMO, MARPOL).

  • Provide basic technical support to clients during vessel design and construction phases on safety, fire protection, and lifesaving equipment matters.

  • Help identify minor non-conformities or inconsistencies in safety plans and arrangements.

  • Assist in implementing and verifying approved safety solutions onboard.

  • Collect relevant technical data for safety plan approval activities.

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, safety assessments, and engineering drawings.

  • Support documentation submission to authorities and classification bodies

  • Support tracking of technical and financial progress for assigned tasks.

  • Apply basic project management principles to manage simple activities.

  • Provide updates to the Project Manager and help escalate issues when necessary

  • Participate in supervised site visits, inspections, and measurements.

  • Support on-site safety verifications and contribute to reporting findings.

Education

Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Qualifications

.-0-2 years of experience in ship structural design, shipbuilding, or classification society plan approval.
- Basic knowledge of ship structure, strength analysis, and material properties.
- Familiarity with Classification Society Rules (e.g., RINA, DNV, ABS, BV, LR) and international regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, CSR, IACS URs, IMO codes).
- Basic knowledge with plan approval procedures, including the review of drawings for compliance with class and statutory requirements.
- Basic knowledge in ship structural analysis tools (e.g., Ansys, FEMAP, MAESTRO, NAPA Steel) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Aveva Marine, ShipConstructor).
- Understanding of finite element analysis (FEA), fatigue assessment, and buckling calculations.
- Basic familiarity with welding standards, shipyard practices, and structural fabrication techniques.
