RINA is currently recruiting for a Augusta Marine Surveyor to join its office in Augusta, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.​

Mission

The Senior Surveyor serves as an experienced and knowledgeable professional within the organization, applying expertise in maritime Rules, Regulations, and industry principles.The Senior Surveyor plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of surveying processes.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Technical Expertise and Advisory: Serve as a subject matter expert on maritime classification standards and statutory requirements, continually updating knowledge to reflect industry evolutions and regulatory changes. Provide insightful recommendations to enhance surveying protocols and safety programmes.
  2. Comprehensive Survey Execution and Reporting: Perform thorough, hands-on surveys on a variety of classed vessels, offshore installations, and marine structures. Ensure all inspections are conducted with accuracy, rigor, and in alignment with applicable rules. Compile detailed and precise technical reports, delivering clear findings and professional assessments to stakeholders.
  3. Project Coordination and Team Leadership: Effectively plan and oversee surveying schedules and activities, ensuring optimal resource allocation and time management. Mentor and guide junior surveyors, fostering a culture of continuous learning and quality enhancement within the surveying team.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement and Client Relations: Act as a dependable interface between RINA and its clients, addressing technical queries and resolving challenges collaboratively. Maintain transparent and proactive communication to guarantee client satisfaction and uphold RINA's reputation for service excellence.
  5. Training and Professional Development: Lead training initiatives aimed at elevating the technical skills and knowledge base of the surveying workforce. Encourage adoption of advanced survey techniques and compliance frameworks to bolster team capabilities.
  6. Quality Assurance and Ethical Integrity: Champion rigorous quality control measures ensuring consistency and reliability of all survey operations. Uphold the highest ethical standards, promoting integrity, transparency, and fairness throughout all aspects of the survey process, upholding RINA’s core values.

Through these responsibilities, the Senior Surveyor plays an instrumental role in advancing the safety, compliance, and operational sustainability of marine assets under RINA’s classification and certification services.

Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Surveyor, or at least six years in engineering or marine inspection/survey roles within an IACS Classification Society, evidencing a robust understanding of maritime regulatory environments.
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering or equivalent advanced educational credentials.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with RINA’s strategic positioning within the marine sector and strong competence in the English language to effectively manage classification, statutory certification, and related communication.
  • Ability to critically interpret RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and internal safety policies, alongside proficiency in understanding engineering plans, shipbuilding practices, and operational procedures.
  • Expertise in conducting new building surveys, in-service ship surveys, marine management system audits, and certification of service suppliers, with the capacity to evaluate materials, hulls, machinery, and equipment compliance through inspections, tests, and trials.
  • Strong knowledge of ship engineering systems, machinery, and relevant computer software tools pertinent to marine surveying and project management.
