RINA is currently recruiting for a Junior Italy Yachting Surveyor to join its office in Ancona or Viareggio, Italy within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

Mission

A surveyor in a classification society plays a role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine assets.The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards. #LI-MC1

Key Accountabilities

The Surveyor will be responsible for a comprehensive range of duties aimed at maintaining rigorous classification and compliance standards, including but not limited to:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Vigilantly ensure that all surveyed vessels adhere to the latest classification rules, international maritime regulations, and statutory requirements. Monitor the introduction of new regulations and seamlessly integrate them into survey practices.
  • Technical Advisory: Provide authoritative, detail-oriented technical guidance to shipowners, manufacturers, and clients, addressing aspects of classification, design integrity, construction standards, and maintenance protocols. Remain informed on cutting-edge technologies and industry advancements to incorporate best practices within all assessments.
  • Problem Resolution: Act decisively to identify and overcome technical challenges encountered during survey processes or client consultations, utilizing expertise to recommend effective solutions.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and uphold robust quality assurance frameworks to guarantee precision, completeness, and reliability across all inspection reports and documentation, supporting the society's reputation for excellence.
  • Client Engagement and Education: Facilitate insightful communication with clients to explain the significance of classification rules, safety imperatives, and operational compliance, fostering strong partnerships built on transparency and mutual understanding.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Employ standardized digital tools and templates to ensure timely, clear, and consistent reporting of survey findings, certifications, and compliance statuses, facilitating efficient data management and audit readiness.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Engage actively within interdisciplinary teams inside the classification society and collaborate externally to share knowledge, nurture innovation, and promote best practice harmonisation across regions.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Commit to ongoing learning through participation in training programs, certification acquisition, and industry forums to maintain professional competence and leadership in marine classification services.

Education

Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering

Qualifications

The successful candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency in English, enabling precise communication in classification, statutory certification, and related documentation.
  • Capacity to assimilate and apply RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and safety policies effectively.
  • Competence in interpreting engineering plans and an understanding of shipbuilding methodologies and operational procedures.
  • Proven ability to conduct a diverse range of survey activities, including but not limited to:
    • New building surveys: evaluating material suitability, compliance checks, inspections, and issuance of certificates and reports.
    • In-service surveys: inspection of maintenance compliance, deficiency identification, repair monitoring, and certification endorsement.
    • Marine Management System audits.
    • Testing and certification of service suppliers and manufacturers per regulated standards.
  • Strong knowledge of ships’ engineering systems and machinery, supported by familiarity with relevant computer programs and software tools related to survey and inspection responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, paired with a collaborative mindset to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams and with clients.
