Senior System Engineer (Railway Requirements & Configuration Manager)

RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior System Engineer (Railway Requirements & Configuration Manager) to join its office in Abu Dhabi within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.
Mission
The Railway Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.
The successful candidate will join the RINA System Engineering team and will act as Railway Requirements & Configuration Manager for the project of appointment, collaborating with the Railway Integration Manager, and with other System Engineering and System Assurance Experts and Managers, by ensuring the application and validation of all applicable requirements, the development of effective configuration, with the successful integration of the systems involved in the design and construction of the whole railway system.
Key Accountabilities
A. System Requirements & Configuration Management
- Managing railway system scenarios, system architecture, interfaces and other disciplines related to the system and subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply) with the aim to get the traceability of the full set of applicable requirements up to final compliancy validation.
- Coordinating and ensuring the selection of appropriate technologies and the development of effective configurations for new rail projects.
- Manage the issues related to requirements and configurations due to the external stakeholders, ensuring the correct finalization of all the applicable authorization processes.
B. System Integration
- Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
- Validating system compatibility across national and international requirements and standards (e.g., EN, NFPA, ...).
- Ensuring the subsystem are correctly integrated to allow the validation of performance and functionalities for all foreseen scenarios for the railway system.
C. Verification & Validation
- Allowing integration testing validation by ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, laws, …
- Defining and monitoring the execution of the V&V plan for requirements compliancy demonstration
D. Lifecycle Management
- Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects.
- Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.
E. Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies
- Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation.
- Working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies.
Education
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in system engineering for railway systems, with strong proficiency in requirements management
- Experience in focusing on sustainability in Railway systems and infrastructure design, construction, and operation.
- Rolling Stock (Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, High-Speed Trains)
- Signaling Systems (ETCS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking)
- Electrification (25kV AC, 750V DC, 3kV DC systems)
- Track Infrastructure (Standard gauge, High-Speed Rail, Light Rail, Metro)
- Interface management between hardware, software, and infrastructure.
- Managing mixed traffic operations (High-speed, freight, commuter trains).
- CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety)
- ETCS/ERTMS (European Train Control System)
- IEC 62290 (Urban Rail Control Systems)
- UIC, AAR, and FRA Regulations (for different railway regions)
- Systems Engineering: DOORS, Enterprise Architect, ComplyPro
- Failure & Safety Analysis: ReliaSoft, FMECA, FTA Tools
- Electrical & Mechanical Design: MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA
Project Management & Lifecycle Management:
- Working with V-Model, Agile, or Waterfall methodologies.
- Managing large-scale railway system deployment projects.
