Principal Engineer Power Generation

RINA is currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer Power Generation to join its office in Abu Dhabi within the Operations and Maintenance Engineering Division.
Mission
Working within RINA’s Operations & Maintenance Engineering (O&M Eng) Practice, the Principal Power Generation Engineer is the Technical Coordinator for winning and delivering consultancy projects within their area of expertise for clients in the UAE and wider Middle East.
Their area of expertise is the condition assessment, performance optimisation and failure investigation of critical rotating machinery in complex industrial environments (including but not limited to petrochemical, power generation and desalination plants) for clients in the Midde East.
They work in close collaboration with Discipline colleagues in UAE, Italy and the UK, leveraging their expertise and RINA’s Analytical Laboratory capabilities.
They are line managed remotely, working with minimal supervision in carrying out their collaboration, co-ordination, technical delivery and client engagement responsibilities.
The role is office-based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and requires not more than 20% of time on (and travelling to/from) client sites within the Middle East, and travel to the UK or Italy approximately twice per year for approximately 1-week durations.
Key Accountabilities
1. Project delivery: Within area of expertise, act as the Technical Co-ordinator for delivery of consultancy projects, focussed on but not limited to clients/projects in the Middle East.
a. Planning and co-ordination of technical scope.
b. Tasking and supervision of RINA’s technical project team, which may include local and international colleagues.
c. Data collection, analysis and report writing.
d. Control of technical delivery to quality, time and cost requirements.
e. Liaison with the client, written and verbal, face to face and remote, correspondence, discussions, meetings and presentations.
f. Close liaison with RINA Project Managers to support effective project/contract management.
g. Collaboration with wider Disciplines within O&M Eng Practice, and with RINA’s wider Practices.
2. Support to business winning: Within area of expertise, act as the Technical Co-ordinator for winning of consultancy projects, focussed on but not limited to clients/opportunities in the Middle East.
a. Identifying new opportunities with new and existing clients.
b. Collaborating with RINA Commercial and Business Unit staff in the development of client relationships and contract opportunities, including attending client meetings and giving technical presentations.
c. Promoting RINA’s technical capabilities and services, in collaboration with RINA Commercial teams, at conferences and industry events.
d. Providing technical contribution to proposals/quotes, including analysis of client requirements/scope, development of technical methodology and costing of delivery effort.
3. Support to capability development: Within area of expertise, support RINA’s capability development by:
a. Conducting scientific activity, supporting innovation projects including the development of new technical tools and techniques.
b. Maintaining cutting edge industry knowledge and insights (through own research and professional development, and engagement in industry events), advising line managers on market/industry trends and recommendations to grow and keep RINA as a market leader.
c. Undertaking internal and/or external technical training to support own professional development; providing technical coaching, mentoring and training (e.g. on the job training, learning lunches) to less expert colleagues to support their technical development.
4. Compliance: comply as efficiently as possible with RINA’s mandatory organisational requirements including but not limited to risk assessments, reporting, training and performance evaluation.

Education
Qualifications
• Essential: >10 years' experience relevant to the role, including: experience in life assessments, damage mechanisms, and investigating the physical condition of equipment; analysing/modelling operational data; managing and delivering technical projects.
• Desirable >2 years' experience relevant to the role working in the Middle East, with an understanding of the industrial, engineering and business operating environment; acted for client(s) as an engineering Expert Witness.
